sometimes I stop and…

think about how wonderful my life is. I think it’s good to reflect now and then and think of all the good - and bad - things that have happened, that have led you to where you are, and that have taught you some sort of lesson or just given you a lot of joy. so here is an almost-halfway-through-the-year reflection:

  • I started off my year in Paris, France at the Eiffel Tower with people I love including my sister/bestie.
  • I applied for and landed a paid blogging position at my university (The New)
  • My sister and friends helped me write a cover letter and create a resume for an internship in advertising - 3 interviews later, I have my own lime green office!
  • Over reading week I visited one of my best friends in California where I spent a week indulging in Sprinkles cupcakes, the best Mexican food restaurants, and crossed off skydiving from both our bucket lists. I’ve also only seen this kid once in the last 4 years… some best friend;)
  • One of my favourite boys from home coincidentally had a reason to be in Toronto, so after skipping out on Christmas at home, it was nice having a make-up hang out
  • I met a boy at the end of last year who over the course of this year, has easily become one of the best people I have ever known
  • I had a visit from my Soly (and will again soon!)
  • I went to Montreal with my cousin, boyfriend, and a great group of friendlies and had delicious foods:)
  • I’ve now been to a cottage and will be going again soon in a couple of weeks!
  • My old roomie is visiting from Calgary next week and I get to hang out with her like old times!
  • I met a girl in September (thanks Frosh week) with my name, my shoes, my pants, and she basically became my other half for the better part of the year - it’s so hard to meet people this late in uni and still become close, so she’s a real treat!:)

baaaaasically, I’m just really lucky to have a bunch of wonderful people in my life!  reflections always make me so happy :)

today was good

I didn’t really realize it but today was a great day. first, my sister has been visiting since monday and today was the first real day that I didn’t have to worry about any finals or projects (woohoo!) so we had a whole day together. we met up for brunch with my boy at cafe la gaffe (um banana french toast w/ raspberry coulis? yes please) and after an initial meeting that was slightly awkward and very typically a first meeting, today’s brunch made me happy that they get along :) then sister & I walked along queen st - side note, it was a beautiful day - and browsed the stores until we reached the mall. after casually perusing the mall (like very casually), we spent most of the day curled up at chapters with starbucks and a book. I started reading the second hunger games and I won’t lie, teared a bit. then we went out for dinner with her friends at lee’s restaurant on king st. and zomg, it was delicious. and that brings us to now. so it was a day full of people I haven’t seen since december (or last year), people who are close to me, books - my favourite, and delicious food - my even more favourite.

I love my life so much. such a lucky little child I am :)

Being tender and open is beautiful. As a woman, I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep, feel it all – look around you. All of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love.

What I’m eating: quinoa, veg, & tofu salad topped with goat cheese.

I just went for a run, did abs, found out my sister graduated from Cordon Bleu and got a medal AND is wearing the dress I got her one year, and I get to have a picnic lunch date with my cousins today ANNNNNNND the essay I’m writing isn’t due until April 3.

I GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT I’M JOKING, I ACTUALLY HAVE ZERO!!!!!!

I just accidentally deleted the other blog I had under this account… and there goes SO much that I had actually written vs. just reblogging like I do now.

this is probably what a miscarriage feels like.

I KNOW THAT’S AN INAPPROPRIATE JOKE. but it’s still sad.

today has been a weird day.

in that blog I had a print screen of when Blake Lively was following me on twitter, and it was basically just a journal of my life. I re-read it all before I deleted it by accident which is kind of bittersweet - now I know what I got rid of. sigh.

here’s to change :)

recently, life has been really good to me. this year I wasn’t hired back as a part of JForce. ah, deep breath out. that’s a little tough to say, especially online. (since when did saying things over the internet become harder than in person?) however, rather than being disappointed (even though I will miss the lovely girls and rowdy fans), I’m really happy for a chance at new opportunities, and I’m blessed enough to have other doors open right now.

I am excited for a summer that will be entirely different than the past three that I’ve had, and I’m looking forward to different challenges. especially though, I hope that at the end of summer, I’ll be able to look back and be really proud - no matter what I do.

things that are really happy about my life right now
  1. can I still talk about how amazing California was? because I really did love literally every single second. cliche “you can take the girl out of the west coast but you can’t take the west coast out of the girl” quote? yup. the only down side is that one week with one of your best friends just isn’t enough!
  2. one of my bestest guy friends flew in this morning for the cfl combine - I see this kid twice a year at best and the last time was in June. needless to say, I am super duper excited!
  3. another friend of mine is here from vancouver and I haven’t seen him since 2007! we caught up and had lunch today and it makes me happy that it felt very normal.
  4. I have one presentation and two essays until finals! I am looking forward to finals because it means summer.
  5. speaking of summer, I’m way too excited for its arrival! fingers crossed for an internship but if all fails, helllooo backpacking and working in europe for a summer!
  6. I am just happy. with everything. skype dates with two of my best girlfriends this weekend, seeing the lorax with one of my favourite toronto girls tonight, shopping tomorrow, attempting to make our own aloe mojitos with my cousin - the tiniest of things make me very happy.
  7. ALSO one of my bestest vancouver girls is seriously debating a visit toronto in May. make that two of them, actually! too good. two good? har har.
  8. AND MY SISTER - MY FREAKING SISTER - IS COMING IN APRIL. THE GREATEST :)

I was worried because when I first got back from LA I was in a slump. one does not just go from 25C and sunny, and skydiving and Disneyland, and constant best friend time 24/7 for a week to -10C, school work and interviews without missing a beat. somewhere between the 5 hour flight from Cali back to Toronto, I lost some… pizazz, if you will. it was like I was loving life, riding a freaking rainbow kind of happy, to drowning. now that I’ve had a week to get myself back together, I’m finally resurfaced (wow, I can really keep this drowning metaphor going) and excited about life again. whew.

doing something on my bucket list today - super excited & equally nervous. stay tuned for pictures!

What’s in my basket this week:

  • the long sought after almond butter (bye bye, nutella. although our relationship was harmful for me, I’ll always love you and will think of you…)
  • eggs (white because brown were more expensive… why?)
  • baby carrots
  • radishes
  • pears
  • avocados
  • asparagus
  • roasted red pepper hummus
  • plain greek yogurt
  • whole wheat english muffins
  • garlic and fine herb goat cheese
  • 100g proscuitto
  • 100g roasted turkey, lean
  • bananas
  • baby oranges (I apparently like miniature foods?)
  • peppers
  • cucumber
  • tilapia
  • lean chicken breasts
  • tofu
  • ziploc baggies (as bad as they are for the environment, sometimes I just don’t want a container… guilty. but I re-use them sometimes so they last way longer than they should!)

walking home with this in the snow was NOT fun. but this has been the weekend of me: groceries, cleaned my bathroom, room, vacuumed, did laundry, and did readings/studying. now I’m going to organize the kitchen and cook my healthy foods so I don’t feel lame eating counter-productive foods after I work out.

STUDENT LIFE, brrrrrap!

…if you read this post, I applaud you. *hugs*
